Why code is slower to type
Code is packed with symbols that sit far from the home row: braces, brackets, parentheses, the equals sign, quotes and semicolons. Most need the Shift key or a stretch of the little finger. A typist who manages 80 WPM on prose often lands around half that on code, and that is normal.
Being quick at symbols still pays off: less friction means more attention left for the problem. Practise the symbols your results flag, and the punctuation drill helps with commas, quotes and semicolons.
