Before you start

You need a Hindi input method enabled on your device. On Windows, add Hindi (Inscript or a phonetic layout) under Language settings. On a Mac, add a Devanagari input source. On Android and iPhone, add a Hindi keyboard. Mangal is simply the classic Unicode Devanagari font on Windows, so this test is Mangal-compatible.

How Hindi WPM is counted

This test uses the same rule as English tests: five Unicode characters count as one word. Matras and halant are separate characters in Unicode, so a conjunct like क्ष counts as three. Government exams in India use their own counting rules, often based on key depressions, so treat this score as a practice figure.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the government Hindi typing test?

No. SSC and state exams use their own software and scoring. This is a free practice test to build speed and accuracy in Unicode Hindi.
